In my field, that of Dental Aesthetics and Advanced Oral Implantology, there are 2 important decision-making moments:
To decide to carry out the treatment in question;
2) Decide which doctor will perform it.
Deciding to undergo a specific aesthetic treatment, such as having porcelain veneers fitted to upgrade your smile, or throwing away your old dentures and replacing them with implants that will allow you to chew much better, is without a doubt a fundamental decision that could offer you a future with better health, more self-esteem, more confidence, and above all, a better quality of life. However, many people hesitate to take this step, whether due to fear, difficulty leaving their comfort zone, unconsciously believing they don't deserve to invest in themselves for a better life, or because they cannot afford or believe it's not worth making the necessary financial investment.
On the other hand, deciding which Doctor or Clinic to have your treatment at is also not usually an easy decision, but it is equally fundamental! With the diversity of the current offering and increasing advertising, the options are immense, which complicates the decision-making process.
I am often approached by patients who have undergone treatments at other clinics and are extremely dissatisfied and encountering numerous problems, seeking my help to resolve their situation. Typically, these individuals reveal that they were misled with promises of easy and cheaper treatments, only to find themselves in situations of poor quality materials, inexperienced professionals, poor follow-up by the clinics, treatment durations far exceeding what was promised, among other issues.
Unfortunately, treating these cases is usually quite a bit more difficult, involves more suffering, and is also more expensive than carrying out treatments correctly right from the start, which clearly demonstrates the great importance of making the right decisions.
What, then, are the factors to consider to help you make the right decision regarding your oral health treatment? In my opinion, you should choose a doctor with whom you feel empathy, who presents you with different treatment options, who advises you on the best solution for your case, who instils confidence in you and demonstrates experience and knowledge in the process they are proposing. Someone who shows you results from cases similar to yours, who truly cares about you as a person and about the final outcome of your treatment (and not just about wanting your money), someone who guarantees the availability and follow-up you deserve, in addition to the quality and durability of the treatments you will undergo.
I am sure that if you manage to bring together all these factors, your decision will be the most accurate and you will not regret it.
